The World of Nogard

The world of Nogard has been interesting to work on. I started with a world view on a flat surface and just let my imagination run wild. I have never actually been to any islands, but I have seen plenty of pictures of them and have studied about them. Islands are fascinating to me because they can be so different in such small places and yet so beautiful at the same time. I had to also keep in mind that although Islands are quite pretty many are just as deadly. That worked in my favor for the story too.

Dragons have been a fascination of mine since I was a small child. Although many people consider multiple headed Hydras Dragons, and although they may be of the Dragon family; to me the Hydra is as different as the Chromatic Dragons are from the Metallic Dragons. I personally do not like Hydras so there are none in this story.

The idea of having the Dragons transform into human forms actually came from listening to so many people over the years say; "What if aliens from outer space looked just like us? They could be walking down the street right next to us and we would never know it." I always thought that was such a strange thing for adults to say.

There are many different beliefs in our world and some stem from ages before the birth of Jesus Christ. Others we just aren't completely sure of when the myths and legends began. But one thing I was sure of and that is the human's interest in Dragons. I found it disheartening when some supposed Christians tried to intimidate me for having statues of Dragons in my home a few years back. There is nothing wrong with a statue so long as you don't bow down to worship it. I don't tell others what they should and should not have in their homes so you could imagine how I felt. It did give me a good study of human behavior though; for which I am grateful.

I decided that instead of following the normal and typical rout most writers take when doing a Dragon story I would make mine different and hopefully unique. Instead of Dragons vs Humans I would pit two different types of Dragons against each other. One set being the Metallic protects the Humans in their lands while the Chromatic Dragons use and abuse the Humans in theirs. While the Chromatic Dragons live on individual Islands; all but the Golden Dragons live on what appears to be non-separated Islands that make up the main land mass of their world.

Aside from the fun of writing the story the challenge of drawing and coloring the world has been equally fun. I do hope all of my readers are enjoying the story as much as I am putting this thing together.
